The New Cooling Imperative
Data centers face mounting pressure to increase IT power density while minimizing energy and water use. The era of superficial “green-washing” is over. Prominent data center owners and operators have committed billions of dollars to achieve carbon-neutral and carbon-negative sustainability goals.
But the pressure to drastically improve energy efficiency doesn’t stop at the data center. Chip manufacturers also face increasing pressure to create more dense and powerful processors. Unfortunately, they have hit insurmountable constraints imposed by the limitations of air cooling, even when supplementing air cooling with some forms of liquid cooling.
Liquid cooling removes these barriers for the entire data center ecosystem, from data center designers/owners/operators to hardware and semiconductor companies. This represents an inflection point for the industry and opens up possibilities not just in terms of data center design and operation, but also in terms of what computing can accomplish (AI, IoT, Big Data, Edge, etc.)
